Raízes Musicais do Brasil
— Dominique Dreyfus & alii

My first assignment when I joined Tecnopop studio on 2005 was to design the small educational text catalogue from the Raízes Musicais do Brasil exhibition on Arte Sesc Flamengo (the first exhibition was on the Cité de la Musique, in the Brazil’s Year in France).

The challenge this time was to follow the exhibition identity design while ensuring the autonomy of this new object. The typefaces, the colors and the images were already decided by then. When I received the briefing, even the format, the kind of paper, the number of colors and pages were set. One could think that there wasn’t much space left for a project.

On the contrary; I spend at least one or two days setting up margins, type size and leading. Another day speculating about how to display the images on the layout, then one more day just for the chapter pages and folios, and so on... In other words, I had time. Because I had less decisions to make, specially about production, I could concentrate on graphic matters.

Surprisely, Tecnopop trusted me enough to carry on the project almost by myself, and unfortunately I did a lot of mistypesettings (specially with the n-dashes), due to my inexperience. I learned a lot.
